'Doing what he does best': Mohammad Kaif backs Virat Kohli and RCB to win IPL 2025

NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressed confidence in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning their first IPL title this year, citing their strong all-round performance and current second-place position with 16 points.

Virat Kohli , coming off an Orange Cap-winning 2024 season with 741 runs, currently stands fourth in run-scoring with 505 runs, just six runs behind Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav.

RCB need just one more win to secure their place in the playoffs this season. The team has shown remarkable improvement in their overall performance, particularly in their bowling department.

"If we talk about RCB as a team, they have been fantastic. I am emphasizing the word 'team' because they have always been a batting-heavy team, they used to have the mindset of outsourcing their opponents. But this time Rajat Patidar has done a fantastic job of using his bowlers, restricting opponents while defending 170-180."

"Kohli has continued doing what he does best, his bat is never silent during the IPL but the bowlers have given them the belief that they can win. The team with the best all-round side usually has the best chance, so I do believe they can win it this year," Kaif told IANS.

Who's that IPL player?

Kohli, who has retired from T20Is and Tests, has achieved significant success in his international career, winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, the 2013 and 2025 Champions Trophy, and the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, an IPL title has remained elusive for his franchise RCB.

The former India captain has been associated with RCB since his IPL debut following his U-19 success. He led the team from 2013 to 2021, taking them to the finals in 2016.

Kohli holds the record for most runs in a single IPL season, scoring 973 runs in 2016. He is currently the only player to have accumulated over 8000 runs in IPL history.
