Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul began a beautiful new chapter earlier this year when they welcomed their baby girl, Evaarah, into the world on 24 March. The proud parents shared the joyful news on Instagram, calling their daughter a true blessing. Since then, Athiya has stepped into motherhood with quiet strength and grace, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by her father, Suniel Shetty.
The actor, who’s overjoyed to be a grandfather, opened up about his daughter’s journey into motherhood in an interview with News18 Showsha. And from the way he speaks about her, it’s clear that he’s beaming with pride.
She said no to C-section, yes to natural birth
In today’s world where many choose the comfort of a planned C-section, Athiya made a brave and personal choice — she went for a natural delivery. Suniel shared just how amazed he was watching her go through it.
“In a world where everybody wants the comfort of having a caesarean baby, she chose not to do that and had a natural delivery. I remember how every nurse and paediatrician in the hospital said that it’s unbelievable how she went through the whole process,” he said.
Watching her handle the experience left a lasting impact on the ‘Hera Pheri’ actor, “That hit me as a father. I was like, ‘Wow, she’s ready!’ Athiya was very, very strong to do that.”
Strength runs in the family
The ‘Dhadkan’ actor believes Athiya’s inner strength comes from her mother, Mana Shetty. He spoke about how much of that quiet power Athiya may have picked up simply by watching her mum.
“Her mother is a strong woman herself and Athiya probably soaked in all of that from her,” he said.
He also shared that Athiya has handled motherhood with such calm that she’s never looked overwhelmed, even for a second, “Not once has she shown any kind of stress or a frown or shown that she’s tired and exhausted.”
‘She’s unbelievable!’
Like most fathers, Suniel always saw Athiya as his little girl. He admitted he wasn’t sure how she’d handle motherhood, but she completely surprised him. “Athiya has embraced motherhood like a fish to water. She’s absolutely fantastic. Every father thinks of their daughters as little babies. I also thought so and wondered if she’ll be able to handle motherhood, but she’s unbelievable! I keep telling Mana every single day about how proud I’m of Athiya. The way she has adapted to this new life, is going about things and went about her delivery makes me feel so proud. She took everything to her stride,” he added.
A proud grandad enjoying every moment
Now that he’s stepped into the role of a grandfather, Suniel is soaking in every little joy that comes with it. From sharing baby reels with Athiya to bonding over heartwarming grandparent videos, his phone feed has taken a sweet turn. “My Instagram feed is all about kids. Today, I send her reels about childcare and she keeps sending me reels of grandparents and grandchildren and the bond they share,” he said.
