The simple 99p item that can save you £350 on your winter bills

Households across Britain face another tough winter with high energy costs and bills on the horizon. Many people will be looking to save money where possible and an expert has revealed a tip which could slash hundreds of pounds off your bills.

Ofgem confirmed the energy price cap will increase by 2% from October 1. This will take the total to £1,755 per year for a typical household in the UK. However, there is an item cheaper than a coffee which can help save up to £350 on winter energy bills.

Glen Peskett, DIY expert at circular saw blade supplier, Saxton Blades, recommends using a radiator bleeding key to save come cash. The tool is available for just 99p and is quick and easy to use.

Glen said: "A simple radiator bleeding key, available for just 99p, could save Brits up to £350 this season. It's a quick, easy fix that ensures radiators are heating efficiently by releasing trapped air, preventing cold spots, and stopping boilers from overworking."

He added: "Bleeding your radiators is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to cut energy bills. It only takes a few minutes and a tiny investment, but it can make a huge difference when the heating season hits."

"Ideally, you should bleed your radiators at the start of autumn, before the cold weather sets in and the heating goes on full-time. This way, your system is running at maximum efficiency when you need it most."

He added: "Air trapped inside radiators stops hot water from circulating properly, leaving some areas of your home cold while forcing your boiler to burn more energy. By simply turning the bleed valve with a bleeding key, trapped air escapes, allowing your heating system to work efficiently, and saving you money."

A radiator bleeding key is simple to use. According to Glen, you should turn your heating off and let the radiator cool down before locating the bleed valve.

Then insert the key and turn anti-clockwise until air hisses out and water flows steadily. Close the valve, check boiler pressure, and top up if needed.

There are a number of other methods to save money on bills this winter, including switching off "vampire" devices that take up energy when they are not being used. These devices can rack up energy costs in the long-run.

Examples of "vampire" devices are computers, televisions, and gaming consoles. Experts say Brits can save just short of £150 every year by switching off these devices when not being used.
