AIIMS National Center for Aging Offers Comprehensive Care for Elderly Under One Roof

AIIMS New Delhi has established the National Center for Aging (NCA) to provide focused healthcare services for individuals aged 60 and above. This center, developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization, offers a full spectrum of treatments ranging from general outpatient services to specialized surgical procedures and mental health counseling—all within a single facility, eliminating the need for elderly patients to visit multiple departments.

Dr. Ambika Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Geriatrics at AIIMS, explains that the NCA provides services such as X-rays, ultrasounds, blood tests, and medical oncology. It integrates multidisciplinary expertise including physical medicine, rehabilitation, gynecology for elderly women, physiotherapy, and dietetics to create tailor-made treatment plans.

Appointments can be booked both online and offline, with priority given according to patients' health conditions. The center is designed to reduce waiting times, avoid overcrowding, and offer a comfortable environment. AIIMS is continually enhancing the facility by adding operation theaters and increasing bed capacity, aiming to fully operationalize the center with 200 beds, including ICU and HDU units.

The NCA represents a significant advancement in elderly care, ensuring accessible, specialized, and holistic treatment for the aging population under one roof, addressing their diverse medical needs in a dignified and efficient manner.
