Kim Cattrall ramps up long-running Sarah Jessica Parker feud with bitter dig

Send Push

Kim Cattrall has appeared to have taken a dig at her former Sex and the City co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, after years of the two women feuding with one another. The simmering tension between the pair has been well documented over the years and now it appears that Kim has taken another pop at Sarah.

Actress Kim celebrated her 69th birthday on Thursday (21 August) and took to Instagram to share a selfie of herself wearing a Moon Mammoths baseball cap and holding a champagne flute. She told her 1.6 million followers: “Thank you all for your Birthday Wishes.”

Hundreds of fans flocked to the comments section to share their well-wishes for the star with one referencing her iconic character from Sex and the City, Samantha Jones. They wrote: “And Just Like That…we all know [it] was Sam who carried the entire franchise. You, embodied everything that is the essence of a strong, powerful, and vulnerable woman. we love and respect you.”

Kim took the opportunity to like the comment, seemingly throwing shade at her former co-stars, Sarah, 60, as well as Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. Loyal fans will remember the legendary series was an ensemble show which followed the lives of the four leading ladies in New York City.

The romantic comedy television series ran for six series from 1998 to 2004 and was followed up by two films, releasing in 2008 and 2010. Sarah, Cynthia, 59, and Kristin, 60, returned for the spin-off series, And Just Like That…, with Kim choosing to opt out.

The show aired for three series and just ended this week, which is interesting timing for Kim’s savage dig on Instagram. Despite playing best friends on-screen, it seems off-set was a different story for the warring ladies.

Kim earned a reputation as a 'natural comedienne and scene stealer' - which according to show insiders, did not sit well with her three co-stars, particularly the star of the show.

Cynthia and Kristin, who played Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York, are said to have formed an alliance with Sarah Jessica, 'deliberately excluding' Kim from their clique, who in turn allegedly became increasingly isolated on set.

There were even rumours the trio refused to speak to Kim outside of what was written on their scripts, even on 15 hour filming days.

Sources on set said the three would even eat their lunch away from Kim. For a time Kim had an ally in series creator and producer Darren Star but after his departure at the end of the second season, his replacement Michael Patrick King made it clear he was a friend of Sarah's.

But the feud between the girls widened with even makeup artists 'refusing to speaking to Kim', according to Page Six. Then during a shoot in Atlantic City there were reports Sarah Jessica, Cynthia and Kristin all stayed at a house together, while Kim was left to find her own accommodation.

Despite the history between them, four years after the show ended Kim agreed to take part in the much-hyped Sex and the City film. Sarah Jessica admitted in an interview with Elle magazine that filming with her old co-stars hadn't been easy.

"You're on set, you're working 90-hour weeks, you're never home, you're exhausted," she said. "Sometimes feelings get hurt. But I don't have any regrets about how I've treated people," she insisted.
