Brilliantly green, incredibly creamy, and luxuriously rich, avocados are a fruit that provides delectable flexibility for countless dishes.
Whether you're aiming to whip up some delectable guacamole or simply fancy sprucing up your breakfast toast or sandwich, a perfectly ripe avocado is crucial to your cooking adventures. Similar to bananas, avocados ripen after being picked, which is why the ones you grab from the shops feel like tiny inedible stones, often taking forever to achieve that perfect softness.
Getting hold of an ideally ripe avocado exactly when you want it can be a cook's nightmare. Fortunately, this dilemma can be quickly sorted with a clever 10-minute trick from @freshlysnapped on TikTok.

In their useful clip, the TikTok creator explains: "Nothing like a quick bake sesh in the oven to get that avocado to perfection. Never live with an underripe avocado again."
The kitchen expert begins by tightly wrapping an unripe avocado in foil before placing it on a baking tray. For best results, the TikToker suggests heating the oven to a warm 200 degrees for just 10 minutes.
After this short heat treatment, the avocado goes through a cooling phase, then being easily sliced open to reveal its soft, gorgeously coloured flesh, reports the Express.
An alternative method, if you prefer a more leisurely approach, involves keeping your avocados in a brown paper bag, though expect a gentler ripening process, taking two to three days. The secret lies in the natural release of ethylene gas by avocados as they ripen.
Keeping them in a sealed paper container allows this gas to build up, enhancing its ripening power. This technique is especially effective if you place the paper bag on a sunny windowsill.
If your avocado is perfectly ripe but you're not prepared to use it yet, just transfer it from the counter to the fridge. The cooler temperature will help preserve its ripeness for a little longer. Whole, ripe avocados can stay fresh in the fridge drawer for approximately two to three days.
