Christian Horner joked that "looks like a giant bogey" in his new uniform. It was the first thing the chief said after he was shown images of his former colleague wearing the team's green colours at the this weekend.
Newey has made the trip to Monto Carlo for the event. It marks the first time he has been present in-person at a race since he started work at Aston Martin in March this year, following his huge switch from Red Bull.
So naturally, when was speaking to after first practice, it became a topic of conversation. Asked what it was like to see Newey in his new colours, the Red Bull chief replied: "I haven't seen him in green yet."
As he said that, Sky began to show images of Newey wearing that Aston Martin uniform and so Horner was able to give his reaction in real time. And the first thing he said was: "He looks like a giant bogey!"

That unexpected response sparked a snort of laughter from Sky F1 host Simon Lazenby while , also smirking, was quick to respond by telling Horner: "There's a headline you might regret."
The Red Bull chief went on to add: "It's odd seeing him in green. But it's great to see him. He's a racer – I don't think he's ever missed a race at this track, even going back to his leave from . We'll catch up with him later, but good to see him here."

It was at last year's Monaco race that Newey, having already announced his intention to leave Red Bull, entered talks with Aston Martin. They were, of course, a success with the celebrated F1 car design legend agreeing to join the Silverstone-based squad as managing technical partner.
He started work in March but is spending none of his time on Aston Martin's current racing machine. The team has already made it clear that Newey's whole focus will be on the creation of their 2026 car, which they hope will be quick enough to compete at the sharp end of the grid.
Team principal Andy Cowell explained Newey's presence in Monaco as an ideal opportunity for the designer to see how they work on the ground over the course of a race weekend. He said: "This weekend [Newey] is here and he'll see the way we operate in a race weekend environment.
"[He'll see] the way we optimise the car we've got, the way we play a different strategy and so having his experience and insight looking to see what's going well, [and] what's not so well, just helps with our jobs list of what to work on to become a stronger team."
