Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 35-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an assistant engineer on the pretext of offering her a government job in Jabalpur.
The victim approached the police in Jabalpur and lodged a formal complaint on Sunday against the assistant engineer.
The accused, Pankaj Singh Parihar, works in the Panchayat Department at Samnapur Janpad in Dindori district.
According to the complaint, the accused promised the woman a government job in the Panchayat Department. He took her to Dindori saying he would introduce her to some officials in Amarkantak.
But while returning, he stopped near the forest area close to Kundam. There, after drinking alcohol, he allegedly raped her inside the car.
The woman, who lives in Ghamapur area of Jabalpur, had recently become friends with the accused. They used to talk often on the phone.
During these conversations, he convinced her that he could help her get a government job.
As soon as she reached Jabalpur, the woman filed a police complaint at Kundam police station. The police took the complaint seriously and quickly arrested the accused. His car was also seized. He was planning to run away from Jabalpur with his family when the police caught him.
Police officials said that the accused already has other complaints of harassment against him.
Now, a case of rape has been registered against him under relevant legal sections.
