With Bengal Special Intensive Revision (SIR) preparedness at its peak, the booth mapping process date has been extended till October 18. The booth mapping process of seven districts, after matching with the 2002 SIR data, have been fully completed, people in the know said.
In the seven districts, the matching has been 100% complete. The rest will soon complete the process, a senior official said. However, other districts are yet to be completed and WB-CEO's office has instructed the other districts to complete the process as Diwali festival holidays will start from 18 October onwards.
Meanwhile, the names of approximately 3.48 crore electors have been uploaded on the ECI website across West Bengal till Tuesday, after matching with the 2002 SIR data. The total number of voters in West Bengal stands at 7.6 crore as per 2025 electoral rolls.
Meanwhile, West Bengal-Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office has sought factual report from East Midnapore ERO following a complaint by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari that eight BLOs had participated in a political programme, a top official informed. In addition to Adhikari, Congress has also complained to the CEO Manoj Agarwal on the matter. Similar report has been sought from North 24 Parganas district on alleged complaint by BJP leader Arjun Singh.
Adhikari, in his X Handle post, has drawn attention of the CEC said, “Hon'ble Chief Election Commissioner, for your kind information, here's yet another blatant instance of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) brazenly compromising the sanctity of our electoral process in West Bengal. In a shameless display of political favoritism, several Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from the 224 Kharagpur Sadar Constituency were spotted openly participating in a TMC Party Meeting, where they were proudly introduced by none other than TMC's Paschim Medinipur district leader, Debasish Choudhary (alias Munmun). This is nothing short of a direct assault on the principles of free and fair elections.”
Adhikari has cited the names of the eight BLOs-Booth No. 34: Anima Mukherjee - Booth No. 35: M. Durga Rani - Booth No. 36: Chandana Das Mohanti - Booth No. 37: Ramanand Tewari - Booth No. 38: Rabindranath - Booth No. 39: R. Jyoti Lakshmi - Booth No. 40: Dibakar Singh - Booth No. 41: Malabika Mandal.
“These Officers, all of them are School Teachers, are entrusted with the sacred duty of ensuring impartiality at the grassroots level, but are instead hobnobbing with TMC leaders in broad daylight ! This reeks of institutionalized bias, where the very guardians of democracy are puppets in the hands of Mamata Banerjee's autocratic regime. How can we expect fair polls when BLOs are publicly aligning with the ruling party, potentially manipulating voter lists, intimidating opposition workers, and tilting the scales in TMC's favor?”
Adhikari urged the ECI to “immediately take cognizance of this grave violation and initiate stringent action. These biased Officers must be suspended forthwith and barred from any involvement in the upcoming elections. A thorough investigation is warranted to uncover the full extent of TMC's infiltration into the electoral machinery. Failure to act decisively will only embolden such corrupt practices and erode public faith in our democratic institutions.”
Debasish Chowdhury, Vice-President of Trinamool Congress of the district said that the BLOs were invited to the post Durga puja and why can this not be done. Adhikari has attached a video with his X Handle post which shows the TMC leader reading out the names of the BLOs. Congress delegation
Led by Subhankar Sarkar, WBPCC President, Prasenjit Basu, Prasanta Dutta, Ashutosh Chatterjee, Rohan Mitra, Pooja Roy Chaudhuri, a delegation of Congress visited CEO’s office on Thursday. “The Congress leadership has urged the election commission to convene an All Party Meeting before starting the process SIR in West Bengal, otherwise the flaws found in case of Bihar will be repeated which will be dangerous for Democracy,” Sarkar said. TMC’s anti-SIR
