Google Chrome: The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India has issued a serious security warning for those using Google Chrome. This warning has been given keeping in mind those using older Chrome versions on Windows, macOS, and Linux, because hackers can take advantage of the flaws present in these versions.
What is the danger?
According to CERT-In, versions of Chrome older than 136.0.7103.113/.114 on Windows and Mac and 136.0.7103.113 on Linux have many security vulnerabilities. There are reasons for these vulnerabilities.
Improper handling of the Mojo component (which is responsible for process communication within Chrome).
Due to these flaws, Chrome users, whether they are common individuals or organizations, are all at risk.
How serious is this threat?
CERT-In says that these vulnerabilities allow hackers to gain remote control over any system. This can cause many serious damages:
- Leakage of personal or sensitive information
- Threat to system security and reliability
- Infiltration of malware or spyware into the system
- One of these flaws is already being used by hackers in real attacks, which makes this threat even more serious.
What should you do now?
CERT-In has said that Google has fixed these flaws in the latest version of Chrome. Therefore, all users are advised to update their Chrome browser immediately.
How to update Chrome:
- Open Google Chrome
- Click on the three dots on the top right.
- Go to Help and select About Google Chrome.
Here, Chrome will automatically check for new updates, and if any update is found, it will be installed automatically.
If you use the Chrome browser, then update it to the latest version without delay. This small step can protect your data and system from major cyberattacks.
